1. SOLSTICE 2010 is Here

    March 3, 2010 by "H"

This event has been run since the conception in 2006 and has proved very popular and challenging for Scouts taking part.  It also gives Scout Leaders a chance to join in the fun side of the event.

Based loosely on the TV Program “Raven” and aspects of Ormskirk Districts “Moonlight” and West Lancs “Bolander” it gives Scouts the chance to pit their wits against the Druids challenges and Tormentors evil little ways to gain Scout Challenge badges that would normally take a while to get.

This year, the Inner Circle of Leaders has decided that Solstice 2010 should be a linking event between, Cubs to Scouts and from Scouts to Explorers.

A Team of Scouts with Cubs will be 4 Scouts and 2 Cubs who are on, or very nearly on their Link with a minimum age of 10 for the Cubs and a maximum age of 11 ½ for Scouts.

Normal Scout teams of 6 will be of any Scout 10 ½  to 14 years old

Scout/Explorer Teams will consist of 4 Scouts with a minimum age 13 ½ with 2 Explorers with a maximum age of 15.

Teams of 6 have 2 days to complete challenges, ranging from fun bases where team work is vital, to finding hidden Geo-Cache boxes containing clues and Runes (These are the points needed to win the trophy).

Teams of 6 led by an adult (Total of 7), will be classified as training and as such will be exempt from winning the trophy.

On arrival, teams must construct a bivvy from materials they bring with them to a design given to them by the Bivvy Druid.  Runes are awarded for correct construction and use of Scout Knots.  Useful Scout Camp gadget may be made and Runes are also awarded for making them.

Cub/Scout Teams must complete all Challenges, but Geo-Cache boxes will be optional.

All Scout teams can compete in any Challenge and search for Geo-Caches.

Scout/Explorer Teams must compete for all Geo-Caches with the challenges being optional.

The Location of the Venue will be kept a closely guarded Secret until 2 weeks before the event and information posted on the Scout Section web page.

Information will include what to bring for Bivvy Construction, the Design of the Bivvy, a blank Route Card with all Grid references of Check points for the Sunday Hiking Competition.

On the Friday Evening there will be an opening Ceremony Conducted by the Camp Chief (Chief Druid). Teams will be given emergency Contact Numbers and the location of Challenge Gates together with Geo-Cache co-ordinates.
