Ormskirk District Gathering 2019
New Year…New Venue! 20th– 22nd September 2019
The District Gathering is back at a brand new venue this year, Bibby’s Farm! We’ve taken on board comments from leaders and young people following last years Gathering and have looked at a complete programme refresh. What a treat we have in store for you! Bibby’s Farm offers a number of new activities for all sections.
There will be the option of setting up on the Thursday if you wish; however, the Gathering Team can accept no responsibility for groups kit. No one from the Gathering Team will be on site overnight on Thursday and possibly Friday morning.
- Arrive and set up camp.
- Hotdog supper with a selection of sauces!
- Outdoor Movie
- Giant games and board games
Action packed fun filed day of challenge and adventure. By making the move to Bibby’s Farm, we are able to offer new activities to the young people to try out, with some of these being staged dependent upon age. Some of our new activities include: Cavebus, crossbow, pedal cars, grass sledging, aerial runway, crate stacking and many more. But do not worry we still have many of the old favourites such as woodland activities in the #skillsforlife zone, inflatables in the ‘Scouts just wanna have fun’ zone, crafts and science, and water activities in the water zone.
As always to enable the activities to run smoothly we will be split up into groups with an allocated time on each zone and adult help is crucial. If you know of anyone with a permit who is able to support for the day, please let a member of the Gathering team know. Help
will be needed to run activities during the day, however, the evening entertainment this year will be provided by the camp staff, this gives group leaders a more relaxed evening without having to plan and run extra activities.
Saturday evening entertainment will kick off with bingo with a difference; believe me they will want to be a part of it, and then a disco taking us all the way to camp quiet. For those looking for a slightly quieter evening, there will be another outdoor movie and board games available to borrow.
Sunday morning games will as usual be team challenges but with a new organising team and new ideas, who knows what will happen!
Flag down will then draw the camp to a close.
Staff & Camping
Like last year the Explorers will be coming as staff to help run the event and Young Leaders can join as staff or come along with their group.
We have a couple of different camping options available this year, groups can either camp on the communal field or there are some smaller areas available for larger groups or groups wanting to camp together. These will be on a first come first served basis with confirmation of minimum numbers.
Prices & Bookings
We have managed to keep prices the same as last year:
£32 – for all young people camping 2 nights
£20 – for Beavers camping 1 night
£10 – for day visitors/Young Leaders coming with groups
£15 – for Explorers/Young Leaders coming as staff, which includes food
£5 – for leaders
So what do we need you to do now?
Please circulate this information to all of your sections. It would be amazing if we could have every section from every group represented. Please encourage them to come, even if it is only a few. Why not use it as a linking event from Beavers to Cubs or Cubs to Scouts? Not been for a few years, or don’t have the weekend to spare? Come along and help for the day to see what its about, and what is on offer.
By Monday 8th July we need your estimated minimum number of campers and day visitors for each section. Final numbers and payment will be required by Monday 9th September, please note that NO payments in cash will be accepted and all payments must be paid by cheque or bank transfer BEFORE the event.
Final numbers are to be sent along with number of tents. Groups will need to pay for all places reserved at this point. We appreciate most groups will only be returning after the summer, however, all the information has been communicated well in advance to enable parents to be contacted either before or during the summer holidays.
